Catalog for Frances Stark’s mid-career survey at the Hammer Museum. We endeavored to create a book showing as many details as possible, for although Frances’s works look great as overviews, they often contain nuance and detail only visible at close range. In addition to typical scholarly essays and plate sections, Frances solicited contributions from friends, colleagues, and fans, for a chapter she dubbed ‘TEXTSCONIUNXIT,’ whose loose and interpretive layouts contrasted with the relative order contained in the rest of the book. We created and deployed a custom display typeface, ‘AIRSOFT,’ full of alternate ligatures. Designed with Marina Mills Kitchen (as Cactus LA.)
